童書繪本作家林珮思 : 童書是靈魂的窗戶，也是鏡子

林珮思，Grace Lin，獲獎多次的著名華裔童書作家，童年時，Grace 是全校唯一的華人女生，她一直抗拒排斥學習中華文化，將自己視為美國人，言行舉止都徹底美國化，有時看到鏡子的影像，自己還會嚇一跳：「哇，一個中國女孩？？喔~那是我！」

即使如此，同學和老師還是讓她想起，自己是亞裔的事實，使她追尋理想過程有點困擾。小學三年級時，她在班上演唱《綠野仙蹤》那首名曲 Over the Rainbow，同學取笑她：「妳不可能成為 Dorothy，Dorothy不是中國人，Dorothy是美國人！」

但在羅德島設計學院的其中一年，因為學校和羅馬合作，可以申請交換學生計畫，林珮思到了羅馬學習一年。在那裡，她仍然奮力作畫，但內心開始受到衝擊：義大利人問她「是否來自中國或日本？」，她說她是「美國人」，義大利人又問她「你的父母為何要搬到美國？」

林珮思這才發現，因為她的排斥，所以對父母、和亞裔文化一無所知，她也不知道父母為何要搬到美國！她知道米開朗基羅、知道那些歐美的藝術，但她對自己所知甚少。她開始感到矛盾，想尋找答案。

原本，她奮力畫著義大利的教堂等華麗風景，畫到極度精細的地步，只為了讓別人稱讚「Grace，你畫的太好太厲害，你真是一個很棒的藝術家！」可是藝術不該只是為了讓別人恭維，應該是要有東西要跟這個世界分享。林珮思開始思考，她畫了一些義大利景觀的畫作，但畫作裡，開始出現一個黑髮黃皮膚、戴著眼鏡的小女孩在探索著；那就是Grace Lin本人。

到底 Grace 如何克服對自身文化身份的迷失？她又如何尋覓到一條成功的創作之路？兒童繪本和文學在她眼裡為什麼既是一面鏡子又是窗戶？
