ICA LA is excited to announce its grand opening weekend on September 9–10, 2017
Discover the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles’s new 12,700-square-foot facility in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles, designed by wHY under the creative direction of architect Kulapat Yantrasast.
Inaugural exhibitions and programming include:

Bilingual guided tours of Martín Ramírez: His Life in Pictures, Another Interpretation.
Elsa Longhauser, executive director of ICA LA and curator with Victor Espinosa, biographer of the artist will lead in-depth walkthroughs of the exhibition.
11am–4pm
Matchsticks and Mashed Potatoes workshop on collage drawings and alternative image-making in the spirit of Martín Ramírez.
5pm
Performance by Los Jornaleros del Norte (The Day Laborers of the North)

Migrar storybook reading and art workshop with Spanish-language children’s bookstore LA librería and Book Arts LA
2–3:30pm
A conversation with leading scholars of Latin American art and culture James Oles, Rubén Gallo, Josh Kun, and conservator Harriet Stratis, moderated by Elsa Longhauser, on the complex life and work of Martín Ramírez.
4–5pm
Interactive dance class by Cambalache, featuring Maestro Cesar Castro, Xochi Flores, Chuy Sandoval, and Juan Perez –discover the origins of Veracruz-based musical tradition Son Jarocho, its roots, and how it made its way to Los Angeles as well as verse, dance and percussion of the fandango.
