Depot Day is Travel Town’s annual celebration and open house.
This year, Travel Town celebrates the 150th anniversary of the completion of America’s Transcontinental Railroad. The Museum is featuring its newly restored 1864 locomotive that helped to build it.
It is one of only three original Central Pacific Railroad engines still in existence.
Highlighting this special period in United States history, Depot Day has a Victorian era theme, with period costume dress and Civil War reenactments.
There are talks by train restoration experts, and tours through vintage railway passenger cars, as well as model train display layouts and jazz performances by high school bands. Travel Town features antique transportation and railroad exhibits, including the largest collection of steam locomotives in California. A mile-long miniature train ride is available with purchase of ticket.
