The Rowland Assistive Technology Academy opened in the Spring of 2006 as a specialized site for students who are medically fragile with significant developmental disabilities. Special education teachers and support staff provide individualized instruction and services based upon each student’s unique needs. Students are enrolled from throughout the Rowland Unified School District and range in age from 3 to 22.
Instruction is tied to the California state standards and assistive technology is integrated as a tool to access learning. The Assistive Technology and Sensory Integration Center is a rich environment for students to explore and develop academic skills. The Center is staffed with a paraprofessional who works with the speech and language specialist to extend learning opportunities for all students.
Parents and community members are actively involved and welcomed to the Rowland AssistiveTechnology Academy. In addition to instructional staff, foster grandparents enrich the lives of students in a partnership with the Lanterman Developmental Center.
Classes are held Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Thursdays are early release days at 12:45 p.m. The school is also open for an extended school year program.
