Queen Mary Scottish Festival
Feb. 16 & 17, Long Beach
We enjoyed a whole day of family fun at the Queen Mary's Scottish Festival last Sunday in Long Beach. The bagpipers parade was the highlight of the day, but we were especially fascinated by the shepherd day demonstration and highland game competition (too bad they don't have an archery contest for kids), and the English afternoon tea at Queen Mary was a perfect finale to end the day of fun with an elegant note.
丫丫上個週末在瑪麗皇后號度過了一個愉快的下午，第20屆蘇格蘭節熱鬧非凡，大型傳統蘇格蘭樂隊遊行是當日活動的焦點，高原運動競賽吸引了不少大朋友參加，（可惜其中好玩的射箭比賽沒有兒童組）還可以近距離觀看牧羊犬示範放牧技術。各式各樣有關蘇格蘭文化的活動好玩又有趣，大家的情緒都隨著現場的熱鬧氣氛而為之高漲！

Little Princess Merida appeared at the Scottish Festival too. Her "royal highness" was so cute and attracted lots of attention from the audience.
小公主梅里達和她可愛的“王子殿下”也一同參與當日的活動，吸引不少觀眾的關注
Shepherd dog demonstration - every 2 hours four shepherd dogs performed the highly complicated sheep herding techniques. These shepherd dogs were taking a relaxing break between their all-day performance schedule, but we were amazed that they were still sitting in the direction facing their sheep, showing how well-trained and responsible they are.
牧羊犬展示 - 每2小時4只牧羊犬就進行放牧技術演示。這些牧羊犬的專業技術令我們都歎為觀止，他們還坐在面向羊的方向，看得出它們是訓練有素和負責任的。
So where were the sheep? Here they are grazing on the green grass, and the kids were having a fantastic time patting and interacting with them (while their shepherd dogs were watching them from afar).

The Scottish village was one of the highlights of the event - we visited the traditional village where ladies were wardrobed in traditional dresses and demonstrated the century-old method of weaving pure lambs wool into yarn.
蘇格蘭村莊是當日活動的另外一個亮點 – 丫丫參觀了傳統的蘇格蘭鄉村，裏面的女士們穿著傳統服裝，並展示了百年歷史的純羊毛編織成紗方法。
The Highland sports game was an athletic competition of strength and stamina. Strong men competed in thrusting 40 pound metal poles up to 90 feet away.

Many little fun attractions were scattered in the festival and the kids had fun spotting them - - here they were busy posing in the English style telephone booth and with a beautiful Scottish Princess Danielle.

After hours of strolling at the festival, we decided to move forward to the cruise ship hotel for an English afternoon tea to recuperate our energy.
中場休息，丫丫決定來到遊輪酒店享受下午茶來度過這麼美好的一個悠閒下午

The girls couldn't wait to reach for their favorites at the English afternoon tea.

The afternoon tea was true to the English spirit and style in 100%. We started with scones with devonshire cream, finger sandwiches, brewed tea, and ended with another 3 tiers of sweets and chocolates, satisfying both the kids and grown ups.

The Grade Aggregate solo winner was Cameron Hamnquist from San Diego, he was awarded a chanter in precious purple color, a nice decoration for his bagpipe.

La JaJa Kids would like to thank the Queen Mary for its invitation to this special cultural festival. It was an excellent cultural learning experience for the whole family, and lots of fun too!
