胡安娜從小熱愛文字，三歲就偷偷跟著姊姊去上學，並且主動要求老師讓她進教室學習閱讀。她熱愛學習和閱讀，所以沒多久她就會編故事和寫詩。為了讀書，胡安娜住進阿姨位於墨西哥市的家，接受家教的教導，隨後又被總督夫人召進皇宮當侍女，在皇宮裡的大圖書館中盡情閱讀，甚至後來成為修女以後，仍然不斷閱讀和寫作，她一心想擁有自己的圖書館，後來不僅達成夢想，在她私人的圖書館中甚至還有自己的著作呢。
