Have you ever looked up at the night sky and wonder what’s above us? Here’s your chance to experience the night sky with astronomers and discover the vast expanse beyond earth. Telescopes will be directed at other planets and objects in our Milky Way Galaxy. Fun, educational children activities will be available. Kids can also become a Night Sky Junior Ranger! Door prizes will be available for the first 100 visitors! Remember to bring a red lens flashlight to help preserve our night vision throughout the event.
The event goes from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.:
- 7:30 – 9:00: Kid’s Activities
- 7:30 – 8:30: Native American night sky stories by Hupa native Kat High
- 8:00 – 9:00: Preserving the Night Sky, a Presentation by Dr. Travis Longcore,
- 8:30 – 10:30: Telescope Viewing
Dr. Longcore is a leading expert in the environmental and ecological effects of night lighting, including avian collisions with structures, attraction of insects to lights, and the disruption of behavioral and physiological processes across species. He is assistant professor of architecture, spatial sciences, and biological sciences at USC.
