Found LA: Festival of Neighborhoods
10/21/2017 - 10/22/2017
FreeEvent Navigation
On Saturday, October 21, and Sunday, October 22, 2017, the non-profit L.A. Commons will host its 7th annual Found L.A: Festival of Neighborhoods. The weekend of tours is inspired by the Getty’s ambitious PACIFIC STANDARD TIME which in its third iteration highlights Latin American art in Los Angeles and throughout the Americas. PST: LA/LA will focus on such subjects as luxury objects in the pre-Columbian Americas, 20th-century Afro-Brazilian art, alternative spaces in Mexico City, and boundary-crossing practices of Latino artists.
LA Commons joins in this celebration of Latin American culture across Southern California by focusing Found LA on the vibrant latino culture taking place in Los Angeles neighborhoods. The free tours will include an exploration of the intersection of Vera Cruz, Japan and African music & dance at FandangObon in Little Tokyo; a visit to Pacioma’s Mural Mile with muralist Kristy Sandoval; and a walk to experience the vibrant Salvadorian community in South LA. PST: LA/LA provides the perfect jumping off point to connect with LA neighborhoods and the dynamic, but often overlooked street culture.
Found L.A. is a FREE, annual citywide event that showcases culturally dynamic neighborhoods through the eyes of residents, public figures and renowned artists, who volunteer to share their unique perspective and passion for their neighborhood. Found L.A. is open to anyone who wants to organize a tour of their neighborhood, and anyone who wants to learn more about the vast expanse that is Los Angeles. As part of Found L.A., culture seekers explore historic boulevards, sample delicious foods in unknown corridors, and hear little known stories, among many other adventures in communities all around the city.
This program is made possible by funding from AirBnB and the Herb Alpert Foundation.
All tours are open and FREE to the public, but registration is required. People may sign up for multiple tours. More information on registering is available at https://la-commons-2017-found-la.eventbrite.com.
